Ethical Cities Lecture

Global urbanisation is predicted to reach 70% by 2050, meaning 3 billion more people will relocate to cities seeking a place to live a better life. How will our cities respond to such a challenge?
Cities are complex realities — a mix of materials, infrastructures, technologies and people held together by intricate dynamics. The trend over the last decade saw wealth and power gathered in the hands of the 1% of the global population, giving rise to inequalities reflected in the way our cities developed.
As more people flock to cities, the problems of modern urbanization increase. We must tackle issues such as lack of accountability and transparency in governance, scarce citizen engagement, environmental sustainability and climate change, and the housing affordability crisis.
How do we ensure a future where democracy and diversity foster social inclusion and equality for all? How can we improve our cities so that they are truly liveable, smart and resilient, accommodating diverse populations with differing needs?
Join us for a lecture on Ethical Cities and find out how we can reconcile private, political and economic agendas in order to redefine our shared future in the urban age.
